As part of networking activities included in LIFE projects, last 25 May 2019, in Torre dell’Orso, Municipality of Melendugno (Lecce) was held the first event involving the REMEDIA Life Project (event organizer) and the Life SePOSSO project. Both of these projects aims to sea protection.
REMEDIA Life experiments a system to reduce environmental impacts of intensive mariculture by using crops of marine invertebrates and macroalgae that are able to reduce organic pollution.
Life SePOSSO monitors transplants of Posidonia oceanica, which is a priority marine habitat under the Habitats Directive, carried out to compensate damages caused by coastal works and infrastructures.
Representatives of the Life ROC-POP project were also present at the event, which proposes the restoring the habitats in Cystoseira, where Life SEPOSSO had already started networking activities.
The event, organized by the University of Salento, the University of Bari, the CNR Water Research Institute, Maricoltura Mar Grande Srl, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAFT), Puglia Region and Melendugno city, was addressed to citizenships and in particular to the schools of various orders with more than 200 participants.
The presentation of the projects was attended by Prof. Adriana Giangrande, University of Salento for the REMEDIA project, and doc. Maria Flavia Gravina, University of Rome “Tor Vergata” for the SePOSSO project.
The schools actively participated by showing the students’ works produced in the environmental education activities in the frame REMEDIA project and, in conclusion, all the participants have been invited to the comparative tasting of fish bred with traditional techniques and with biological techniques in the experimental plant involved in the REMEDIA project.
