As part of the events planned concerning communication and public awareness (Action D.1), on 21 November 2019 the Life SEPOSSO project was presented to the public at the Sala Ferretti of the Old Fortress of Livorno during the meeting “Climate: past, future and environmental sustainability”.

During a series of talks on the subject of climate change adaptation measures, the AdSPMTS (Port Authority of Northern Tyrrhenian Sea) representatives Claudia Bulleri and Francesco Sozzi explained the objectives and targets of the Life SEPOSSO project regarding the measures to protect the Posidonia oceanica meadows. The AdSPMTS operators were able to present the case of Posidonia oceanica transplantation carried out in the Gulf of Follonica in 2014, prescribed in the decree of Environmental Impact Assessment, and carried out as a compensation measure for the impact deriving from the dredging of the canal of access to the port of Piombino.

The event was oriented to citizenship, and  to young students, the importance of the Posidonia oceanica was explained, one of the richest resources of the Mediterranean in terms of ecosystem services, such as the protection of the belt coastal from erosion and the sequestration of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and its contribution to mitigate climate change effects.
